The Criminal Court of Shaykhontohur District has reviewed a troubling case involving a 24-year-old local resident identified as M. K., who faced charges of animal cruelty. The incident has drawn considerable public attention, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding the enforcement of animal protection standards within the local community.
According to the official case files, the young man was heavily intoxicated when he intercepted his neighbor's domestic cat in the apartment building's common hallway. He proceeded to choke and torment the defenseless animal, deliberately twisting its paw. Following the incident, the injured cat was examined at a private veterinary clinic, where medical professionals diagnosed a bone fracture in its front left paw.
During the court proceedings, M. K. offered a defense, claiming that his initial intention was merely to record a video with the cat rather than inflict deliberate harm. He supposedly argued that due to his state of intoxication, he failed to realize he was actively injuring the animal. The defendant formally stated that he repented his actions, assured the bench that such behavior would not recur, and asked the court for leniency.
Notwithstanding the defense's pleas, the court concluded that the offense constituted a clear violation of public order and animal welfare laws. M. K. was officially found guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Administrative Responsibility Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which penalizes animal cruelty. The court subsequently ordered a administrative penalty of 7 days of detention.
