In Uzbekistan, a new procedure for assigning and paying temporary disability benefits through the state social insurance system comes into force on July 1. Under the new rules, benefits are guaranteed to be paid to employees who temporarily lose their ability to work due to illness, as well as when caring for a sick child or family member.
All calculations are now carried out in a unified electronic system that integrates employers, government agencies, and the social insurance fund. The system is expected to increase the transparency and speed of processes, reducing paperwork and bureaucratic hurdles.
The benefit amount depends on work experience: employees with between 6 months and 8 years of service will receive 60% of their average monthly salary, while those with more than 8 years of service will receive 80%. Family benefits are also provided: if an employee has four or more children under 18 or at least one child with a disability, the benefit amount increases by 20 percentage points. For example, an employee with 7 years of service and one child with a disability will receive 80%, while an employee with over 8 years of service and four children can receive up to 100%.
The benefit payment period is limited to 26 weeks per year. If the illness period exceeds 11 weeks, the benefit amount is reduced by 10 percentage points. For caring for a child under 14, an additional 20 calendar days are provided, and for a child with a disability under 16, 40 days are added.
The first five days of illness per year are paid by the employer. Starting from the sixth day, payments are made by the social insurance fund. The benefit is accounted for both at the main workplace and in part-time work, with the amount calculated proportionally to the total average salary.
The benefit is assigned not only for temporary disability but also for treatment in sanatorium-resort or rehabilitation institutions, during quarantine, temporary transfer to another job due to illness, and when necessary to care for sick family members.
