Uzbekistan and Japan have signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of ecology. The document outlines joint actions to combat climate change, reduce air and water pollution, and improve waste management systems.
A meeting was held in Tashkent between the Advisor to the President of Uzbekistan on Environmental Issues, Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change Aziz Abdukhakimov, and a Japanese delegation led by Deputy Minister of the Environment Doi Kentaro.
The parties discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation in environmental protection, sustainable development, and addressing contemporary ecological challenges. It was emphasized that environmental problems are global in nature and require united efforts to solve them and preserve nature for future generations.
Following the negotiations, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between Uzbekistan's National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change and Japan's Ministry of the Environment. The document provides for interaction based on principles of equality and mutual benefit, taking into account sustainable development goals, national legislation, and international environmental agreements.
According to the memorandum, cooperation covers combating climate change, reducing air pollution, preventing water resource pollution, and improving waste management systems. The parties also agreed to hold joint meetings, conferences, symposiums, and seminars, as well as exchange information between specialists and experts from the two countries.
The memorandum will serve as a basis for expanding Uzbek-Japanese partnership and implementing joint environmental projects. It is recalled that a center for training specialists to work in Japan is set to open in Karakalpakstan.
