The US regime has rejected Iran's counter-proposal for a regional conflict settlement. President Donald Trump called Tehran's position "absolutely unacceptable," stating that the document's content does not advance the negotiation process.
According to Axios, the main stumbling block is Iran's conditions. Tehran insists on the immediate lifting of US sanctions on oil exports and the unfreezing of assets immediately after signing a preliminary memorandum of understanding.
Iran demands a cessation of war on all fronts, guarantees against the resumption of hostilities, and exclusive rights to manage the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, Iran demands the immediate lifting of the US naval blockade, while Iran intends to gradually unblock the strait itself.
Deutsche Welle, citing The Wall Street Journal, reports that Tehran has also declared its readiness to transfer enriched uranium stocks to a third party, on condition that they be returned if talks fail.
In Tehran, criticism from US leadership was met neutrally, with officials stating that "proposals are made based on Iran's national interests, not for Washington's approval." Iranian officials emphasized that Trump's displeasure is a natural consequence of defending the Iranian people's rights.
Amid the diplomatic impasse, voices in the US Senate are calling for a shift to a military scenario, including the possible resumption of the previously halted naval escort operation in the Persian Gulf. Senator Lindsey Graham proposed "changing course" and restarting "Project Freedom" in an expanded mode.
Concurrently, the US president discussed the situation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stressing that negotiations with Iran remain the exclusive prerogative of the US administration. The dialogue format, which envisions a 30-day negotiation period after signing the memorandum, remains in question due to radical differences on economic and defense aspects.
Earlier, the US regime officially announced the conclusion of the large-scale military campaign "Epic Fury" against Iran and the simultaneous suspension of "Project Freedom" in the Strait of Hormuz, citing the achievement of set goals. However, not everyone agrees with this assessment.
