In Turkey's Mersin province, a 37-year-old man carried out an armed attack, resulting in the deaths of six people and injuries to eight others. According to local media, the attacker used a hunting rifle.
The tragedy unfolded on May 18 in the Camliyayla district, where a quarrel broke out between the 37-year-old man and his ex-wife. During the conflict, the suspect shot the woman with a shotgun; she died at the scene from her injuries.
Immediately after, the man headed to the neighboring Tarsus district, allegedly intending to settle scores with another long-time opponent. There, he burst into a restaurant and opened fire on those inside. The attack left the restaurant owner and one employee seriously wounded.
According to local media, after leaving the restaurant, the attacker continued shooting at people on the street. Preliminary investigations showed that three people died at the scene, and three more later succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. Eight people sustained injuries of varying severity.
Investigators reported that the suspect regularly used drugs and was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the attack. Law enforcement agencies are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
