️ Kenneth Law, 60, entered guilty pleas in an Ontario court on Friday as part of a deal with prosecutors, who withdrew more serious murder charges. The former chef sold toxic chemicals online to individuals he met in suicide forums.
️ Authorities say Law mailed about 1,200 packages of poison to recipients in 41 countries, including over 100 in the UK. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) decided not to charge Law in the UK due to legal complexities, angering families of victims.
️ David Parfett, whose 22-year-old son Thomas died after buying a substance from Law for £50, said: “I had wanted Law to face charges in the UK.” Thomas was found dead in a hotel in Surrey in 2021. Parfett is calling for a public inquiry.
️ Law was arrested in May 2023 following a Times investigation where a journalist posed as a customer and received advice on using the products. At least 11 law enforcement agencies from a dozen countries were involved in the probe.
️ Under Canadian law, aiding suicide carries a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison. Law’s lawyer confirmed the plea deal, which resulted in the withdrawal of 14 murder counts.
