Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) clinched their second consecutive Indian Premier League (IPL) title on Sunday, defeating the Gujarat Titans in a thrilling final. Superstar batsman Virat Kohli played a match-winning knock of 75 not out off 42 balls, sealing the victory with a massive six in front of over 90,000 fans at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Kohli, 37, was named player of the match for his heroics. “I have thought of this moment many times, wanting to hit the winning run,” he said after the game. The former RCB captain has been with the franchise since the inaugural 2008 season and called back-to-back titles especially meaningful after losing finals in 2009, 2011, and 2016.
Kohli finished as RCB’s leading run-scorer this season with 675 runs, taking his IPL career tally to a record 9,336 runs, including 68 half-centuries and nine centuries. He credited younger players for pushing him to adapt to modern T20 cricket. “I just take a lot of pride in getting better and trying to figure out areas where I can improve,” he said.
