At least one man was killed and five others wounded in a shooting attack in central Israel on Sunday, which police described as a suspected “terror attack.”

Israeli emergency service Magen David Adom reported that a 35-year-old man died from gunshot wounds, while two of the injured are in serious condition. The casualties were taken to hospitals.

Police said they killed the suspected gunman after a manhunt. The attacker was identified as a Palestinian with Israeli citizenship from the city of Tayibe. The weapon used in the attack has been recovered.

The shooting began at a gas station near Kochav Yair, close to the occupied West Bank city of Qalqilya, and continued in nearby towns. Security forces are searching for additional suspects.

Hamas praised the attack as “heroic” but did not claim responsibility. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office held a situational assessment. The public has been urged to remain vigilant.
