The New York Knicks erased a 29-point deficit and moved within one win of their first championship since 1973, defeating the San Antonio Spurs 107-106 in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night.
OG Anunoby tipped in Jalen Brunson's missed three-pointer with 1.2 seconds left to complete the rally, giving the Knicks a 3-1 series lead. Brunson scored 36 points, and Anunoby added 33.
The Spurs led by 27 at halftime, but the Knicks stormed back. Coach Mike Brown said, "I told OG to be a monster on the offensive glass. I don't know if there's been a bigger play in Knicks history."
No team had overcome more than 24 points in a finals game since detailed tracking began in 1997. The Spurs led 81-52 in the third quarter. The only larger playoff comeback was 31 points by the Clippers in 2019.
The Spurs, who made 11 of their first 16 three-pointers, went cold in the second half, hitting just 3 of 17. The Knicks outscored them 58-30. "We got on our heels; we missed shots," Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said.
Victor Wembanyama had 24 points and 13 rebounds but shot 9-for-25. President Donald Trump did not attend, but Taylor Swift was present. The Knicks canceled plans for an outdoor watch party.
Game 5 is Saturday in San Antonio. The Knicks need one more win to clinch the title.
