China's Ministry of Commerce has imposed retaliatory sanctions on 10 US companies linked to the defense sector, banning them from supplying Chinese dual-use goods, including through third countries.

Simultaneously, China's Ministry of Finance prohibited state entities from purchasing products from 46 US firms, including subsidiaries of Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, and General Dynamics. Beijing took this step in response to the Pentagon's action in early June, which added tech giants Alibaba and Baidu to a list of military companies, stripping them of US defense contracts.

Chinese authorities stressed that the US sanctions violate the May agreements between Xi Jinping and Donald Trump. The new restrictions affect US drone manufacturers, the aerospace sector, and raw material extraction.

The list of 10 blocked enterprises includes auto giant Oshkosh Defense, known for producing heavy military vehicles and armored cars, and Ball Aerospace & Technologies, famous for creating optics for the James Webb Space Telescope. Also targeted were MP Materials and USA Rare Earth, which control rare earth mining in the US.

Experts consider the sanctions largely symbolic, as these defense enterprises do not conduct direct business in China. Nevertheless, Beijing's move could complicate their global supply chains.
