Uzbekistan's hopes of advancing to the knockout stage were dashed after Ecuador defeated Germany 2-1 in East Rutherford. The South American side, which was on the brink of elimination, finished Group E with four points, pushing Uzbekistan out of contention for the best third-place spot.
Germany took an early lead through Leroy Sané in the 2nd minute, but Ecuador equalized quickly via Nilson Angulo. In the second half, Gonzalo Plata scored from a corner to put Ecuador ahead. A German penalty appeal was overturned after a VAR review.
Ivory Coast secured a 2-0 win over Curaçao, with goals from Yan Domande and Nicolas Pépé. The Ivorians will face the runner-up of Group I (France or Norway) on June 30.
Uzbekistan's mathematical chances depended on Sweden losing heavily to Japan, but the match ended in a 1-1 draw, extinguishing any remaining hope. Sweden took the lead through Anthony Elanga after Daizen Maeda's opener for Japan.
The Netherlands dominated Tunisia 3-1 to top the group. Goals from Denzel Dumfries (own goal), Brian Brobbey, and Jan Paul van Hecke secured the win. The Dutch will play Morocco on June 30, while Japan faces Brazil.
