The title fight lasted all five rounds and ended with Makhachev winning by unanimous decision. This victory marked his 29th career win in MMA against just one loss. Previously, in his last bout at UFC 322 in New York, Makhachev defeated Australian Jack Della Maddalena.

For Ian Garry, this was his second career loss against 17 wins. With this victory, Makhachev extended his UFC winning streak to 17 consecutive fights. He surpassed legendary Brazilian fighter Anderson Silva to become the absolute record holder in the promotion's history.
