Italian Serie A club Cagliari has confirmed that French forward Yael Trepy is currently in intensive care at a hospital in Sassari, Sardinia. The club stated it remains in close contact with medical staff and the player's family.
In a brief statement, Cagliari said: “The club asks for privacy to be respected and will provide further updates as soon as possible,” without disclosing the circumstances of the incident.
Italian media report that the 20-year-old was rescued on Sunday after swallowing a significant amount of water in a swimming pool in Porto Cervo, northern Sardinia. Doctors reportedly placed him in a medically induced coma.
Trepy, a forward who scored once in eight Serie A appearances last season, joined Cagliari's academy in 2022 from Paris-based Union Sportive Creteil.
Cagliari's last match was on Friday, a 1-0 Coppa Italia win over Arezzo, in which Trepy played 54 minutes. The club and fans are now anxiously awaiting updates on his condition.
