A 22-year-old woman has died after a shooting at a rave in Aarau, Switzerland, police said on Sunday. The incident occurred late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, with shots fired shortly before 3:00 a.m. local time (0100 GMT) during the annual Aarauer Rave at the Schachen racecourse, where the techno party was being held.

Five other people, aged between 24 and 27, were wounded in the attack, some of them seriously, according to police. The Aargau Cantonal Police have launched a manhunt for the 'unknown perpetrator,' stating that the motive and exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear.

A large contingent of police has been deployed to the area, and an investigation has begun. Police in Freiburg, in neighboring Germany, are also assisting in the manhunt, as reported by the German news agency dpa. The cantonal police said a major operation was ongoing and asked people to stay away from the area, while appealing for any videos or images of the incident to be shared.

Swiss newspaper Blick quoted police spokeswoman Vanessa Rumpold as confirming that the shooting occurred at the Schachen racecourse. Aarau has about 22,300 residents and is located approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) west of Zurich.

The authorities are urging witnesses to come forward as the investigation continues. The incident has shocked the local community, which is unaccustomed to such violence. Police have not yet established a motive, and no arrests have been made.
