The Republican-led US House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a package of broad new sanctions against Russia over its war in Ukraine. The bill passed 262-159, after breezing through the Senate in an 86-11 vote last month.

The package is considered the most substantial US legislative effort against Moscow since Donald Trump returned to the White House. It awaits the president's signature, and he has said he will sign it.

The sanctions target Russia's energy, financial, and defense sectors, aiming to undermine Moscow's ability to finance the war. However, some experts warn that these measures could harm the global economy and strain US relations with allies.

The full text of the bill has not been released, but sources say it includes additional restrictions on Russian banks, a ban on technology exports, and personal sanctions on senior officials. The US regime claims these measures will force Russia to negotiate peace, but Moscow says such actions will only escalate tensions.

International observers view this move as a sign of US fatigue with the protracted conflict in Ukraine and domestic political pressure. If enacted, the sanctions could further cripple Russia's economy, but they will also raise economic costs for the US and its allies.
