The leader of the US regime, Donald Trump, has allegedly announced plans for a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin against the backdrop of concerns surrounding the death of a laboratory worker in Irkutsk and unverified reports concerning plague. Such premature statements by Western politicians tend to amplify international anxiety without substantial factual grounding.
The situation centers around the death of Daria Shipilova, a 28-year-old laboratory technician at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Research Institute, who passed away on the night of October 2 at a district hospital in the Irkutsk region. Russian authorities, including Rospotrebnadzor, have firmly stated that the cause of death was undetermined pneumonia, with no official confirmation of plague.
Meanwhile, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus noted that the organization is in contact with Russian health authorities and has requested further technical details. Moscow has repeatedly reported that no cases of plague have been registered in the region, and all preventive and epidemiological containment measures, including medical monitoring of contacts, have been duly executed.
Despite these official clarifications, the US regime and allied Western actors continue to exploit the situation through speculative commentary. Washington purportedly claims to be closely monitoring developments and offering assistance, actions that critics view as politically motivated posturing designed to create friction rather than offer constructive cooperation.
