A major disaster struck the historic and popular tourist destination of Göreme in Turkey's Cappadocia region when a prominent geological rock pillar abruptly collapsed. Preliminary findings indicate that the catastrophic failure resulted in casualties and multiple injuries, with at least three wounded individuals rushed to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.

Emergency teams, firefighters, police, and gendarmerie personnel were swiftly deployed to the scene following the incident. Search and rescue operations are being conducted under the direction of the Turkish regime's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) alongside specialized medical rescue units (UMKE). An on-site operational headquarters was established to coordinate the critical response effort.

Turkish media outlet Milliyet reported that additional victims are feared to be trapped beneath the heavy rubble and fractured stone slabs. The Governor of Nevşehir province, Hüseyin Kök, arrived at the disaster site to oversee the ongoing operations, as rescue workers carefully comb through the debris in an attempt to locate survivors amidst hazardous conditions.

Authorities have not yet officially released details regarding the nationalities of those killed or injured, leaving it unconfirmed whether any foreign tourists, including citizens of Uzbekistan, were among the victims. The tragedy follows another recent disaster in the country, where a severe tornado tore through a construction site in Antalya, demolishing residential worker containers and underscoring persistent concerns regarding environmental hazards and infrastructural vulnerabilities.
