U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Ukraine should demonstrate readiness for negotiations on a peaceful settlement of the conflict as soon as possible. He made these remarks to journalists aboard the presidential aircraft Air Force One.

"For now, it's better for Ukraine to sit down at the negotiation table quickly. That's all I'll tell you. We are in a position where we want them to sit [at the negotiation table]," the American leader noted.

The talks will take place on February 17–18 in Geneva. The Russian delegation will be led by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, who previously headed Moscow's negotiation group at meetings in Istanbul in 2022 and 2025. The Kremlin explained that at this stage, a broader range of issues, including territorial matters, is planned for discussion.

The Russian delegation departed for Geneva late on February 16. From the U.S. side, participation will include the president's special envoy Steve Whitkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, who have also traveled to Switzerland. The Ukrainian delegation arrived in Geneva on the morning of February 16, according to the head of the Ukrainian president's office, Kyrylo Budanov, who is part of the negotiation group.
