The messaging app Telegram stated that it has found no breaches in its data encryption system and denied allegations by Russian authorities of providing intelligence agencies with access to user communications. Company representatives announced this in a comment to Reuters.
Telegram described statements by Russian officials about hacking the encryption as a "deliberate fabrication," which, in the company's view, is being used to justify a potential ban on the platform and promote state-controlled messaging services.
"The Russian government's claim that our encryption has been hacked is a deliberate fabrication intended to justify banning Telegram and forcing citizens to use a state-controlled messaging platform designed for mass surveillance and censorship," said the company's press service.
Previously, Roskomnadzor reported on enhanced measures to slow down Telegram's operations. The regulator stated that restrictions could be expanded if the company does not locate servers within Russia and fails to comply with Russian legislation.
