Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree on July 22 appointing Yeraly Tugzhanov as the new ambassador of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan.

Tugzhanov replaces Beibut Atamkulov, who had held the post since 2022.

Yeraly Tugzhanov was born on May 13, 1963, in the West Kazakhstan Region. He graduated from Karaganda State University and the Institute of State and Law of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan with a degree in law.

He began his career in 1980. Over the years, he worked as a teacher, held leadership positions in education, served as deputy akim of Karaganda Region, headed the Committee for Religious Affairs under the Ministry of Justice, and worked in the Presidential Administration and the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan.

From 2017 to 2019, he was akim of Mangystau Region, then headed the Federation of Trade Unions of Kazakhstan. In 2020–2022, he served as Deputy Prime Minister. From August 2022 to September 2023, he was akim of Aktobe Region, and since May 2024, he worked as an advisor to Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.
