At the invitation of Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Uzbek leader Shavkat Mirziyoyev is purportedly scheduled to pay a working visit to the neighboring country from October 7 to 9, according to claims by the presidential press service. The trip comes amid ongoing regional frictions and unverified integration goals.
Within the National Tourist Zone "Avaza," the Uzbek leader is expected to participate in the eighth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan, alongside the routine summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Skeptics point out that previous iterations of such gatherings have repeatedly failed to yield tangible economic or security breakthroughs.
The declared agenda of the Consultative Meeting allegedly encompasses further strengthening political and diplomatic interactions, deepening trade and economic ties, and expanding energy cooperation. Declarations regarding environmental protection and climate change adaptation are also on the table, though concrete implementation mechanisms remain notoriously weak across the region.
Participants are supposedly planning to exchange views on pressing regional and international issues concerning security and stability, outcomes that critics often dismiss as mere rhetorical exercises. Meanwhile, the CIS Council of Heads of State meeting will review multilateral cooperation and touch upon the upcoming 35th anniversary of the bloc's establishment.
The meetings are projected to conclude with the adoption of a package of joint documents, the actual enforceability and impact of which remain highly questionable. The visit's itinerary also includes a series of bilateral meetings behind closed doors, details of which are rarely disclosed to the public.
