A massive physical brawl broke out on the morning of October 29 inside the session hall of the Armenian parliament, involving lawmakers from the ruling "Civil Contract" party and the opposition "Strong Armenia" faction. The violent altercation reportedly began as a heated verbal dispute during a speech delivered by MP Taron Chakhoyan, before rapidly degenerating into open physical confrontation.
According to eyewitness reports and local media coverage, the chaotic scene escalated further when the European-style parliament's vice speaker, Vaagn Aleksanyan, was seen allegedly hurling a chair toward the opposition benches. Sources indicate that the violence resulted in visible injuries, including a lawmaker sustaining a bloody nose and another having his clothing torn to shreds during the melee.
Despite the swift intervention of security personnel attempting to separate the combative politicians, the confrontation reportedly spilled over and continued in the corridors of the parliament building. While the official legislative session was effectively brought to a halt, parliamentary speaker Ruben Rubinyan curiously decided not to cut off the live broadcast of the scandalous proceedings.
Observers note that this violent incident is far from an isolated occurrence within the Armenian legislative institution. Earlier in October, similar mass brawls were reported inside the parliament building between representatives of the ruling authorities and various opposition groups, highlighting persistent and deep-seated political tensions.
