Tashkent, Uzbekistan – Podrobno.uz. A crime prevention inspector in Tashkent was caught red-handed receiving a $10,000 bribe. He allegedly demanded the money in exchange for promising to initiate a criminal case.

The arrest operation was carried out by officers from the State Security Service together with the Department under the General Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, the inspector from the Uchtepa district police department demanded the bribe from a 36-year-old man previously suspected of fraud involving IT services to a foreign citizen worth $450,000.

However, during the probe it emerged that back in February this year, law enforcement had already decided not to open a criminal case on that matter.

A criminal case has now been opened against the inspector, and investigative actions are underway.

Law enforcement urges citizens to report similar incidents via the short number 1520. Confidentiality is guaranteed.

A similar case occurred in Chirchik, where a district police officer was arrested for taking a bribe to cover up an assault case.
