The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has instructed commercial banks and payment organizations to implement a function for indicating the purpose of payment in card-to-card (P2P) transfers. Users will now need to select the appropriate payment category when conducting transactions in mobile applications.

According to information from the Telegram channel Bank va Mijoz, under the new requirements, senders will be prompted to specify the transfer purpose from a list of 16 categories. The list includes, in particular, transfers to relatives, payment for services, debt repayment, charitable contributions, grocery expenses, and other household payments.

Currently, some fintech services have already implemented the new function, while others are transitioning to the updated format gradually.

The Central Bank emphasized that the innovation is technical in nature. It aims to provide more detailed statistics on money flows and improve transaction processing algorithms. Data is collected only within banks' internal systems and, as the regulator states, is not shared with third parties.

The implementation of the new classification occurs against the backdrop of increasing popularity of mobile transfers. In 2025 alone, transactions in the range of 1 to 5 million soums accounted for 16.8% of the total volume of operations.

It is noted that the new requirements will not affect existing tariffs, but users are advised to carefully check the details and selected category before confirming the transfer.
