The Lebanese government announced an "immediate ban" on the military activities of the Hezbollah movement.
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stated that any combat operations and security actions by the group are now illegal. He said members must surrender weapons to the state, and the movement's activities will be restricted solely to the political sphere.
The Lebanese authorities' decision follows rocket strikes and drone attacks on Israel by Iran-backed Hezbollah. According to Israeli military sources, some rockets were intercepted, while others fell in open areas. In response, the Israeli Air Force conducted airstrikes on southern suburbs of Beirut controlled by the group. An IDF spokesperson said there are currently no plans for a ground operation in Lebanon.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared Hezbollah leader Sheikh Naim Qassem a target for strikes, threatening him with the "lowest hell" and comparing his fate to that of Iran's supreme leader.
