President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on April 24 with the participation of regional and sector leaders. The head of state demanded concrete results on key economic indicators and warned of personal responsibility for their implementation.

According to the TV channel “O‘zbekiston 24”, usually in such meetings, regional governors and sector heads participated remotely from their regions, but this time they gathered in the capital. Andijan region governor Shuhrat Abdurakhmanov noted that the meeting format was changed due to the need for personal reporting to the head of state: “Previously, we participated in such meetings while in the region. This time it’s different. Because we personally, looking into the eyes of the respected president, determine indicators and report. We return with a sense of responsibility and guarantees.”

According to the TV channel, almost all sector leaders were present in the hall. For each indicator, not only figures but also clear mechanisms for achieving them were required. Special attention was drawn to the documents prepared on the president’s table — guarantee letters from the Chairman of the Jo‘qorg‘i Kenges of Karakalpakstan, governors of regions and the city of Tashkent, who assumed obligations to fulfill specific tasks by the half-year and year-end.

The head of state seriously warned officials against complacency: “Time, the economy, and the demands of people are growing every day. A third of the year has passed. Unfortunately, some have not yet woken up, they are sitting half-asleep. I see and know who is working, who is breathing, who is occupying a dry chair and delaying the implementation of reforms. But I am giving them leeway for now.” “Anyone who succumbs to complacency will make a mistake. I called you so that you know: I repeat again and again — thanks to our actions appropriate to the time, the world community has begun to recognize the flag and people of Uzbekistan. These are not high-sounding words. The purpose of today’s meeting: will you, every leader sitting here and in the region, be held accountable or not?” — Shavkat Mirziyoyev asked.

During the meeting, governors were tasked with ensuring effectiveness across a wide range of areas: from energy, transport, tourism, industry and investments to curbing inflation and stabilizing prices for consumer basket goods. Bukhara region governor Botir Zaripov announced that the region had assumed specific commitments on key indicators: “By the end of this year, we have committed to ensuring growth of gross regional product by 9.2%, and industrial growth by 9%. In addition, we have defined measures to prevent the poverty and unemployment rates from exceeding 2%, and inflation from exceeding 6.5%.”

Fergana region governor Khayrulla Bozorov, in turn, noted that in the current difficult conditions, ensuring economic stability has become a priority task: “The most important thing is that in the current difficult conditions, ensuring economic stability is defined as a priority task. If last year 2.7 billion dollars of investment were attracted to the region, this year we aim to bring this figure to 4.3 billion dollars.” According to him, the region plans to develop transport and logistics directions to increase export volume to 2 billion dollars, enter new markets, and create more favorable conditions for business and investors.

The president reported that in the first quarter of 2026, Uzbekistan’s economy grew by 8.7%. Economist Mirkomil Kholboyev noted that since the start of the new stage of reforms, growth in the first quarter had never exceeded 7%. “Those who do not work and just receive a salary are riding in the same train as those who work,” the head of state said. At the same time, as the president warned, if inflation continues to accelerate, economic growth will not bring a tangible effect for the population and business. He instructed to keep price growth within 6.5% by increasing the supply of local products, expanding meat imports, and eliminating logistical disruptions.
