On May 7, Uzbekistan Railways announced the start of construction of the electrified railway line Nurafshon — Piskent — Bo‘ka — Bekobod — Boyovut — Yangiyer. The 110 km route will connect Tashkent and Sirdaryo regions.

Ceremonial events marking the start of construction were held in two districts of Tashkent region — O‘rta Chirchiq and Bekobod. Participants included Tashkent region governor Zoyir Mirzayev, chairman of Uzbekistan Railways Zufar Narzullayev, and Bekobod district governor Zaynilobiddin Nizomiddinov via video link.

Officials symbolically drove the first piles in Nurafshon and Bekobod. Construction crews will begin laying the first section of track between the two cities, working towards each other.

The project plans include construction of 4 railway stations, 21 overpasses, 6 bridges, and one traction substation.

Governor Mirzayev expressed confidence that the new railway network will accelerate economic growth in the region, increase employment, and improve transport connectivity.

According to the announcement, the future line will not intersect with roads or other railways, will bypass populated areas, and is designed to minimize environmental impact.

Plans for this and other electrified routes were first reported in November 2025. Overall, by 2030, Uzbekistan aims to build 151 km of new lines, electrify 182 km of existing lines, modernize 27 stations, and upgrade 1,000 km of track.
