On May 13, the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis considered in the first reading the draft law 'On the Status and Social Protection of Military Personnel'.

Defense Minister Shukhrat Kholmukhamedov noted that until now there was no single law comprehensively regulating the legal status and social protection of military personnel. Therefore, this draft law was developed.

The document consists of 5 chapters and 37 articles, providing for comprehensive regulation of the rights and obligations of military personnel, their responsibilities, the procedure for service, as well as the social and legal protection of their family members.

According to the draft, the set of rights and freedoms, restrictions, duties, and responsibilities guaranteed by the state for military personnel is defined as 'the status of a military serviceman'. The document also clearly outlines the procedure for acquiring and terminating this status.

The draft law establishes guarantees for material support, housing provision, quality medical care, compulsory state insurance, pension provision, and compensation in case of injury or death during service.

Additionally, it is planned to introduce a procedure for providing sanatorium-resort vouchers with a 75% discount once a year for military personnel with at least 20 years of service who have been discharged from military service.

The draft provides for the payment of material assistance up to 100 times the basic calculation amount (currently 41.2 million soums) once a year for the treatment of military personnel and their family members suffering from socially significant diseases, victims of accidents or other natural disasters, as well as in connection with the death of a military serviceman or his family members.

Deputies adopted the draft law in the first reading without questions.

It is worth recalling that from April 1, the long-service bonus for officers of the Ministry of Defense was doubled. The monthly salary of ordinary soldiers and sergeants serving under contract was increased by 10%.

Also, from March 1, 2025, the amount of monthly monetary compensation for renting housing for military personnel was increased by 20%. In the case of three or more family members, the compensation was increased by 50%.
