On May 12, the Criminal Court of Olmazor district found citizen T.R., born in 1965, guilty of spreading false and defamatory information about the President of Uzbekistan and his family members in the form of comments on the Instagram social network.
According to court documents, the comments were written using an iPhone 11. The incident was discovered when internal affairs officers examined the phone.
In court, T.R. stated that officers invited him to the station, and during the phone check, the Instagram comments were found. He claimed he wrote the comments while intoxicated and “unwittingly,” admitted guilt, and expressed remorse. He also cited difficult family and financial circumstances and requested leniency.
The court ruling noted that his guilt was confirmed by an administrative protocol, a seizure and examination report, photographs from Instagram, and other written evidence.
The court found T.R. guilty of violating Part 2 of Article 202-2 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility (Distribution of false information threatening public order or safety, including in mass media, telecommunications networks, or the Internet) and imposed a fine of 50 times the base calculation value — 20 million 600 thousand soums.
The iPhone 11 seized as material evidence was returned to its owner.
