A junior inspector from the Urgench city police department, identified as D.Yu., was sentenced to four years in prison after causing a fatal traffic accident while driving a Cobalt under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred in the Shavat district on December 23, 2025.
According to court documents, D.Yu., 30, attended a friend's wedding party where he consumed alcohol. Despite being intoxicated, he got behind the wheel, placing a passenger, Kh.F., in the back seat and another friend in the front.
During the drive, D.Yu. lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into a concrete barrier. The rear passenger, Kh.F., sustained severe injuries and later died in the hospital. A witness in the front seat testified: "We were drinking alcohol. D. himself poured vodka. After the party, I told D. I wouldn't get in if he drove. But he refused to give the keys to anyone. He was speeding. I told him to slow down. He was flying at 120 km/h on a narrow road. At the first pothole, the car jumped, but he didn't slow down. At the second pothole, the car hit the concrete barrier and overturned."
In court, D.Yu. fully admitted his guilt, claiming he lost control due to a pothole. He expressed remorse and requested a lenient sentence. The victim's father asked the court to take legal measures, stating that D.Yu. and his family had come to apologize and offered 2 million soms in compensation, but the family refused.
The Shavat District Court found D.Yu. guilty under Article 266, Part 2 of the Criminal Code (Violation of traffic safety rules resulting in death). He was sentenced to four years in a penal colony and banned from driving for three years.
