A 30-year-old junior inspector from the Urgench city police department, identified as D.Yu., caused a fatal traffic accident while driving a Cobalt under the influence of alcohol in the Shavat district. The passenger in the back seat sustained severe injuries and died in the hospital.
On December 23, 2025, D.Yu. attended a friend's wedding party and consumed alcohol. Despite his intoxication, he decided to drive two friends home, placing one in the front passenger seat and the victim, Kh.F., in the back.
According to a witness in the front seat, D.Yu. drove at 120 km/h on a narrow road. The witness testified: “I told him to slow down, but he didn't. The car hit a pothole, bounced, then hit a second pothole, crashed into a concrete barrier, and flipped over.”
In court, D.Yu. fully admitted his guilt, claiming he lost control due to a pothole. He expressed remorse and requested a lenient sentence.
The victim's father told the court that D.Yu. and his family had come to apologize and offered 2 million soums as compensation, but the family refused and returned the money, demanding legal action.
The Shavat District Court found D.Yu. guilty under Article 266, Part 2 of the Criminal Code (violation of traffic safety rules resulting in death). He was sentenced to 4 years in a penal colony and banned from driving for 3 years.
