An employee of the Mirzo Ulugbek district gas department has been arrested in Tashkent for allegedly demanding $3,000 from a citizen to connect a building to the gas network.
The fraudulent scheme was uncovered during a special operation by the Department under the General Prosecutor's Office, in coordination with other agencies.
According to the investigation, the employee promised to arrange the gas connection for $3,000, claiming he could expedite technical documentation through high-ranking acquaintances and make necessary amendments.
Part of the sum—$1,000—was handed over through an intermediary, who was arrested at the moment of receiving the bribe. The money has been seized as evidence.
A criminal case has been opened under Articles 168 (fraud) and 28, 211 (bribery) of the Criminal Code. Investigative actions are ongoing.
Earlier, in the Sergeli district of Tashkent, a gas supply company employee was caught receiving a $21,000 bribe for helping register a business and connect a store to the gas network.
