Authorities in Uzbekistan's Fergana region have destroyed a large batch of counterfeit medicines valued at over 376.5 million soums (approximately $34,000). Officers from the Bureau of Compulsory Execution (BCE) burned the seized drugs based on a decision by the Tashlak District Criminal Court.
According to the BCE press service, a total of 184 different pharmaceutical items were slated for destruction, including 9 boxes of the hormonal drug "Omnadren-250." All of these medical products had previously been recognized as material evidence in a criminal case.
Inspections revealed that none of the drugs had mandatory conformity certificates or had passed safety checks. Due to the potential danger to consumers, authorities decided to completely destroy the counterfeit batch.
The disposal procedure took place at a central specialized site in the Tashlak district, where the counterfeit lot was burned in the presence of representatives from relevant agencies and financially responsible persons. The BCE emphasized that such measures are aimed at curbing the shadow pharmaceutical market and protecting the population from hazardous products.
