Uzbek tennis players continue their successful run at the US Open. Following Kamilla Rakhimova, Maria Timofeeva has also advanced to the second round of the tournament, defeating Slovenian Tamara Zidanšek in the opening match with a score of 6:3, 7:5.
Timofeeva, ranked 86th in the world, started confidently against the 146th-ranked player and took the first set 6:3. The second set was more competitive, but the Uzbek representative managed to secure a 7:5 victory.
With this win, Timofeeva joins Kamilla Rakhimova, who earlier won her first-round match against world No. 29 Barbora Krejčíková.
In the next round, Timofeeva will face the winner of the match between Spain's Caitlin Quevedo and Belgium's Elise Mertens. Mertens is an experienced player, and this match will be a serious test for the Uzbek athlete.
The successful performance of Uzbek tennis players at the US Open highlights the growth of tennis in the country and opens new prospects for the sport's development.
