According to the National Statistics Committee, as of April 1, 2026, the average population density in Uzbekistan was 85.5 people per square kilometer. However, regional figures show a stark contrast.
The absolute leader in population density is Tashkent city, with 7,300 people per square kilometer. This is tens of times higher than the national average, making the capital the most densely populated area in the country.
Among regions, Andijan region tops the list with 821.4 people per km², followed by Fergana region (627.8) and Namangan region (430.9). High density is also observed in Khorezm region (341.2) and Samarkand region (262.1).
In the middle group are Syrdarya region (222.1) and Tashkent region (209.6). Surkhandarya (150.5) and Kashkadarya (130.6) regions are more sparsely populated.
Lower density is seen in desert areas: Jizzakh region has 74.3 people per km², and Bukhara region 50.5.
The lowest figures are recorded in Karakalpakstan (12.4) and Navoi region (10.2 people per km²).
According to the "Generation 2050 in Central Asia" report, Uzbekistan's population is expected to reach 52 million by 2050, and exceed 40 million by the end of this decade. The age structure of society will also gradually change.
