On August 30, Gayratjon Eshpo'latov, the governor (hokim) of Zafarobod district in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan, was involved in a road traffic accident while driving a service vehicle, a KIA Seltos. The incident was reported by Kun.uz.

According to sources from the publication, the car collided with the rear of a large truck. At the time of the crash, the governor's school-age son was behind the wheel. The accident occurred within the district's territory.

The Jizzakh branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Assistance reported that Eshpo'latov's condition is serious, and he remains in the intensive care unit. Doctors have diagnosed fractures to his right thigh and left shin. His son's condition is stable, with a leg fracture.

A request for information has been sent to the regional traffic police department regarding the accident, and an investigation is underway. Eshpo'latov has served as the district governor since March 2024.

The incident raises concerns about road safety compliance among local officials. In particular, the fact that a minor was allowed to drive a service vehicle has sparked public criticism. No official conclusions have been released yet.
