A video circulating on social media showed an elderly woman brutally beating a minor in Samarkand. The case was taken under control by the children's ombudsman.
The regional representative of the children's ombudsman visited the scene and found that the 61-year-old resident had systematically subjected her seven grandchildren under her care to physical and psychological abuse. The Samarkand City Internal Affairs Department launched a pre-investigation check into the illegal actions against the children.
At the ombudsman's request, a protection order was issued for the children, and the woman was stripped of her custodial rights. The children were placed in a family-type children's home, where their safety and care are ensured. The ombudsman continues to monitor the situation.
Earlier, it was reported that Uzbek parliamentarians intend to expand the powers of the children's ombudsman.
