Uzbekistan's Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) has officially responded to reports circulating on social media about a locust swarm in the western regions of the country.

Video messages claimed that on the section of the A-380 highway passing through Bukhara, a 'swarm of locusts has taken over everything.' The MES explained that this is an annual seasonal migration of locusts, which is local in nature, and that no damage has been caused to agricultural products.

The ministry emphasized that the situation with locusts in these areas is fully under the control of the MES and its state subsystem services. 'There is no reason to worry,' the statement said.

Every year, the MES, the Agency for Plant Quarantine and Protection, and other relevant organizations carry out pre-season and in-season chemical treatments in the regions.

In late March, it was reported that harmful locusts began hatching in Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, Samarkand, and Jizzakh regions. About 700 specialists were involved in the control efforts. For 2026, chemical treatment is planned on 651,800 hectares of land.

To report areas affected by harmful locusts, citizens can call 1288 or 71 202 10 00.
