Uzbekistan has introduced a ban on parole for certain individuals convicted of bribery-related crimes. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the law on June 22, titled “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aimed at Increasing the Effectiveness of Anti-Corruption Measures and Ensuring the Inevitability of Liability for Corruption Crimes.”
Under the new law, parole is prohibited for individuals who accepted a bribe on an especially large scale, committed the crime repeatedly, or are classified as dangerous recidivists. The ban also extends to those who gave bribes or acted as intermediaries in bribery. The measure is part of a broader effort to tighten the fight against corruption and ensure punishment is unavoidable.
The law took effect on June 23, the day of its official publication. According to the Criminal Code, “especially large scale” refers to an amount exceeding 500 times the base calculation value (BCV). Currently, this threshold is 206 million soums (approximately $16,000), and will rise to 220 million soums after the BCV increase on September 1, 2026.
Previously, Kun.uz reported that the law also establishes a register of corrupt individuals, who will be barred from entering public service.
