Shavkat Mirziyoyev, at a meeting on June 25, instructed to expand the use of energy-saving materials in housing construction and renovation, reported the press service of the head of state.

The country annually builds an average of 65,000 individual houses, and another 200,000–250,000 apartments are renovated.

“It must be said openly that many are still not sufficiently aware of the benefits of energy-saving materials. For example, in an apartment of 200–250 square meters, an average of 7–8 million soums is spent on gas in winter, and an additional 3–4 million soums on electricity in summer,” the president said.

According to World Bank data cited by the head of state, Uzbekistan consumes 350 kWh of energy per year to heat 1 square meter of space. This is 2–3 times more than in European countries.

If the facade and roof of a house are covered with heat-insulating materials and windows are replaced with energy-saving ones, energy consumption will decrease by at least 30%, said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

“If we explain to people in simple language how to use energy-saving materials and reduce electricity and gas consumption, will there be changes? Of course, there will. Why am I saying this? Heating of homes accounts for 20% of total gas consumption in the economy and 11% of electricity,” he believes.

As an example, the “Yangi Uzbekistan” massif under construction in Kamashi district, designed for 4,000 households, was cited. The project is being implemented based on a new approach to design developed by French and British companies.

“Most importantly, this project fully uses local energy-saving products, and the cost is 20% cheaper. The costs of heating and cooling the house are reduced by 30%,” the president said.

He instructed regional, district, and city khokims to study the new approach to design based on the Kamashi experience. This year, the construction of multi-apartment buildings in 33 districts and cities where the “Yangi Uzbekistan” image is being introduced will be carried out only on the basis of this approach.

The president also instructed to develop recommendations for the transition to energy-saving materials in housing construction and renovation. These recommendations should be communicated to 19,000 construction companies, and information on benefits under the “green renovation” project should be delivered to every mahalla and every household where construction is underway.
