Two citizens of Uzbekistan were detained at Phuket International Airport in Thailand for attempting to smuggle over 26 kilograms of cannabis products out of the country. The incident occurred on July 1.
Customs officials discovered dried cannabis inflorescences, bricks, and processed products in the luggage of the two 26-year-old suspects. One suspect had 30 vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis weighing 9.8 kg, along with 14 bricks of processed cannabis weighing over one kilogram.
The second suspect was found with 30 packages of dried inflorescences weighing nearly 10 kg, eight bags of hashish weighing 4.1 kg, and processed products totaling about two kilograms.
Both suspects are charged with attempting to export goods without undergoing customs procedures, violating the Customs Act of 2017. Authorities also cited violations of Thailand's narcotics laws and Ministry of Health regulations on controlled herbs, including cannabis.
The suspects and seized substances have been handed over to investigators. Thai authorities warn that cannabis smuggling carries fines of up to 30,000 baht ($820) per kilogram or imprisonment.
Previously, a resident of Bukhara region was found with over 600 cannabis and opium poppy plants, with a total weight exceeding 9 kilograms.
