During his state visit to Georgia, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan discussed further expansion of multifaceted Uzbek-Georgian relations. Mirziyoyev emphasized that this is the first such visit in 23 years.
The meeting noted with satisfaction the intensification of contacts at the levels of parliaments, governments, and business circles. Bilateral trade turnover reached $270 million last year, with a growing number of joint projects and enterprises.
The first Georgian digital bank, TBC, is successfully operating in Uzbekistan. Direct flights connect Tashkent, Tbilisi, and Batumi. In March, Days of Georgian Culture were successfully held in Tashkent.
Priority attention was given to increasing mutual trade volumes, including through effective use of the Poti and Batumi ports. Opportunities for advancing cooperation in pharmaceuticals, chemicals, agriculture, transport, energy, digital technologies, and tourism were highlighted.
The importance of expanding interregional ties to foster business, tourism, and humanitarian exchanges was stressed. At the end of the meeting, Mirziyoyev invited Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili to visit Uzbekistan.
