President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the ongoing construction of the National Museum of Uzbekistan, being built in the center of Tashkent. The presidential press service reported this. The large-scale cultural project is being implemented in accordance with a presidential decree dated July 1, 2025. It is worth recalling that the head of state laid the foundation stone for the facility in August last year.
The leader of the country reviewed the construction and installation works, the process of laying foundations for the facilities, and the development of engineering infrastructure on the museum grounds. He was also briefed on the architectural appearance and the concept of the exposition. It was noted that the museum's architectural design and content are based on global best practices. The project was designed by renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando, while the exhibition concept was prepared by the German company Atelier Brückner.
The total area of the complex is 3.9 hectares, with the building area exceeding 40,000 square meters. The structure will consist of a 3-story main building and a 2-story underground section. 60 percent of the museum's area will be allocated for educational and scientific activities. It will house exhibition halls, a rich library, restoration laboratories, and conference halls. Restaurants and children's playgrounds will also be organized for meaningful recreation of families and youth.
This cultural venue will be able to accommodate up to 3,500 visitors at a time. Around 10,000 historical and artistic exhibits will be displayed here. Once construction is completed, the building, together with the nearby Abulkosim Madrasah, the Palace of Friendship of Peoples, and the National Park, will form a unified architectural ensemble. Furthermore, cooperation will be established to hold joint exhibitions with such prestigious global cultural institutions as the Louvre in France, the Metropolitan in the US, and the British Museum.
The President gave instructions to the responsible officials to carry out construction works within the established deadlines and based on high quality standards. The need to comply with international requirements at all stages, given the project's global significance, was also emphasized.
