A fatal accident at the Pistali mine of the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine (NMMC) has claimed the lives of two employees, the company’s press service reported.
The incident occurred on September 10 at around 15:00 at the tire storage area of the 1st transport shop of the Pistali mine, part of the Automotive Transport Department of the Kyzylkum Mining Administration. According to NMMC, the two workers died while mounting a tire on the trailer of a pipe-carrying vehicle.
Law enforcement agencies have launched a pre-investigation inquiry into the incident. Additionally, state supervisory authorities have ordered a special inspection to examine the circumstances and causes of the accident.
The management of the combine and responsible services stated that necessary measures are being taken to prevent such accidents. However, this is the second fatal incident this year: in July, a BelAZ haul truck ran over a service pickup at the Muruntau mine of the same combine, killing two people.
NMMC is Uzbekistan’s largest mining and metallurgical enterprise, and its operations require strict adherence to safety regulations. The recent events point to serious problems with labor protection and industrial safety at the company. The question of accountability and the outcome of the investigation remains open.
