In the Akhangaran district of Tashkent region, the head of a construction company was detained while receiving $83,500. The arrest was carried out by officers of the State Security Service (SSS) and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes.
According to authorities, the detention was made red-handed. The head of the general contractor firm demanded the sum from a subcontractor in exchange for paying off debts for completed work and continuing cooperation at the site.
The conflict arose during the construction of a poultry farm. In April of this year, the general contractor hired an outside firm to asphalt internal roads on the territory, concluding a contract worth 3.7 billion soums. The subcontractor fully completed the work but received only 2.5 billion soums. The head of the construction company deliberately delayed payment of the remaining 1.2 billion soums, forcing the founder of the partner company to pay him a large sum in cash.
A criminal case has been initiated against the detainee, and an investigation is ongoing.
The SSS reminded that instances of extortion and corruption can be reported via the short number 1520. Confidentiality is guaranteed.
Earlier, the deputy prosecutor of the Urgut district was detained on suspicion of taking a bribe and extortion.
