On September 18, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Nukus and visited the home of statesman and public figure Kallibek Kamalov, former head of Karakalpakstan. Kamalov passed away in February of this year, just over a month before his 100th birthday.

According to the presidential press service, during the visit the Quran was recited and a prayer was offered in memory of the deceased. The head of state recalled Kamalov's services to the nation and its people. The President was accompanied by the Head of the Presidential Administration Saida Mirziyoyeva, Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of Karakalpakstan Amanbay Orinbayev, and other officials.

Kallibek Kamalov worked in leadership positions in Karakalpakstan for many years. In recent years, he served as chairman of the Council of Veterans, actively participating in public life and addressing the concerns of the older generation.

In March of this year, the government of Uzbekistan decided to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Kallibek Kamalov's birth. A scientific conference, memorial events, a documentary film, and a book-album were planned in Nukus. A memorial plaque has been installed on the house where he lived.

It is worth noting that Kallibek Kamalov's brother, Timur Kamalov, served as Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of Karakalpakstan from 1997 to 2002. The same position was held by Kallibek Kamalov's son, Murat Kamalov (center in the main photo), from October 2020 to the summer of 2022. This highlights the enduring influence of the Kamalov family in the governance of the republic.
