A presentation on reforming school education was held for President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent. It was announced that 1,342 new textbooks and teaching materials are planned to be prepared by 2027.
The need to update educational materials stems from deficiencies in current textbooks. Specialists analyzed 260 publications and identified 1,257 errors, including 464 translation errors in 51 textbooks. Some materials did not match students' age levels, and topics were presented too complexly.
The development of new textbooks will draw on international experience. Primary school textbooks have been certified by the Finnish Education Alliance, while materials for mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology for grades 5–7 are based on Singaporean textbooks.
The new approach provides clear definitions of knowledge and skills students should master by the end of each grade. Textbooks will feature more tasks to develop critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Students will be taught not only to memorize information but also to analyze it, argue their position, and apply knowledge in practice.
Special attention is given to career guidance. 255 lessons have been developed to help children better understand their interests and make informed career choices. Over 300 topics are dedicated to environmental literacy, with additional materials on financial and digital literacy.
The textbook update is accompanied by teacher training. Professional development programs are being adapted to the new educational content. Already, 110,000 primary school teachers have been trained. Additionally, with Singaporean partners, 121 master trainers and 739 mentor teachers have been prepared, who have trained another 90,000 educators.
A new knowledge assessment system has been introduced in 5,000 schools. It takes into account not only students' ability to memorize information but also their understanding of the material and ability to apply knowledge in practice.
The President emphasized that developing new textbooks alone is not enough. For their effective implementation, it is necessary to simultaneously improve teacher training, teaching methods, and the knowledge assessment system.
