A resident of the Akhangaran district in Uzbekistan’s Tashkent region has been sentenced to 18 years in a penal colony for murdering his own brother and attempting to dispose of the body. The 35-year-old man stabbed his relative during a drinking session, buried the body in his own yard, and then, several days later, dug it up, dismembered it, and hid the remains on both sides of a river.
According to case materials obtained by Podrobno.uz, on the evening of January 20, 2026, the 27-year-old victim visited his older brother, bringing cognac and energy drinks. The host’s wife and three children were also at home. The older brother declined alcohol but kept the guest company. The conversation initially touched on everyday matters, but as the bottle emptied, the tone changed. The younger brother brought up the ownership of the house and began mocking his host. When asked to lower his voice, the guest insulted his sister-in-law and threatened to call law enforcement to evict the family.
According to the defendant, he tried to defuse the situation, but his brother resumed cursing. The host then snapped, grabbed a kitchen knife, and struck his brother three times in the neck. When the victim began to wheeze, he threw him to the floor, covered his mouth with his hand, and inflicted several more blows to the side. He held his relative down until he showed no signs of life. The entire episode lasted about twenty minutes. The wife and children were asleep in the next room.
Wrapping the body in a blanket, the man dragged it into the yard, threw it into a pit previously dug for an outdoor toilet, and buried it. He poured gasoline over the fresh grave and set it on fire along with bloodied clothes. In the morning, the family had breakfast as usual. The man called his sister and asked if she had seen the younger brother, who had supposedly gone missing.
On January 23, the sister filed a missing person report. Investigators visited the house several times and inspected the grounds. On one occasion, they noticed freshly dug earth, but the owner claimed he had been burning trash there. Realizing that the investigation was progressing, the man decided to relocate the remains. At night, he returned to the pit but realized he could not lift the body whole. After dismembering the corpse with an axe, he transported the parts on a garden cart to the river. He hid one part among rocks and buried the head and torso on the opposite bank. He drowned the knife, axe, and the victim’s phone in the river.
On January 30, the brothers’ mother returned from Russia. She came to question her son in person, but he stuck to his original story. The denouement came on February 3. The mother persuaded her son to travel with her to the Navoi region to visit their father’s grave. Throughout the journey, she asked him about the fate of the younger son. As they approached the city, the man broke down and confessed everything. The next day, at the police department, he wrote a confession and indicated the locations where the body parts were hidden. An examination established that death resulted from acute blood loss due to cut wounds to the neck. Burns and dismemberment injuries were inflicted after death. Genetic testing confirmed with 99.9% probability that the remains belonged to the missing man.
The court qualified the actions under Article 97, Part 2 of the Criminal Code (“Intentional murder with extreme cruelty”) and Article 134 (“Desecration of the body of the deceased”). The defendant fully admitted guilt and asked for leniency, noting that he is the sole breadwinner for three minor children, one of whom is disabled. The sister of the deceased also petitioned for clemency. The court sentenced him to 17 years for murder and 4 years for desecration of a body. Cumulatively, he received 18 years in a general regime colony.
Earlier, it was reported that in Fergana, a man and his 17-year-old brother killed their mother and stepfather and then attempted to murder their younger brother. One of the perpetrators was sentenced to life imprisonment, the other to 13 years.
