Uzbekistan is moving toward stricter packaging regulations for non-alcoholic beverages under a draft government resolution proposed by the Ministry of Health. Starting January 1, 2027, the authorities reportedly intend to mandate clear, color-coded warning labels on the front of packaging for drinks containing varying levels of added sugar, aiming to address public health concerns.

Under the proposed rules, labeling requirements will be determined by the total sugar content per 100 milliliters of the product. Beverages containing between 5 and 8 grams of sugar will feature a black inscription on a yellow background reading "MEDIUM SUGAR CONTENT." Drinks with 8 to 11 grams of sugar will carry an orange background with the warning "HIGH SUGAR CONTENT."

Products containing 11 grams or more of sugar per 100 milliliters will face the strictest labeling, requiring a white inscription on a red background stating "VERY HIGH SUGAR CONTENT - FREQUENT CONSUMPTION HARMS HEALTH." These mandatory warnings must be placed prominently on the front of the packaging, cover at least 15 percent of the total surface area, and utilize high-contrast colors to ensure immediate visibility.

In addition to visual text warnings, manufacturers will be required to include a QR code providing consumers with detailed data regarding product ingredients, calorie counts, and recommended daily intake limits. The Food Safety Committee has been tasked with approving a unified laboratory testing methodology by March 1, 2027, and ensuring full laboratory accreditation by September 1 of that year.
