The Ambassador of the European Union to Uzbekistan, Toyvo Klaar, in an interview with Kun.uz, reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and outlined prospects for future cooperation. According to his statements, the past two years have marked a significant intensification of ties between Tashkent and Brussels.
The diplomat pointed to three historical milestones during his tenure, including the summit held in Samarkand in the spring of 2025, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's visit to Brussels in the autumn, and the signing of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement. The European official claimed these events demonstrate a growing commitment to deeper integration.
Addressing the practical implications of the new agreement, Klaar noted that the document merely serves as a framework. He argued that the actual substance of the partnership depends entirely on the concrete actions and mechanisms implemented by both sides, emphasizing the creation of a newly established Trade Council.
The representative of the European regime also reiterated the importance of human rights, the rule of law, and good governance as core principles guiding the relationship. He concluded that the primary objective moving forward is to translate high-level expectations into tangible outcomes.
